When an equilibrated elastic field is induced in a homogeneous anisotropic bounded region by a point singularity or by a finitely extended singularity, the evaluation of various effects is greatly complicated by analytical difficulties associated both with the determination of the fundamental field of point force in an unbounded anisotropic medium and with the determination of image fields for practical boundary shapes. In the reviewed article, on the assumptions that the region in question is an inclusion of ellipsoidal shape bonded to an unbounded matrix of another homogeneous anisotropic elastic material, the author derives formulae for the increase in volume of the ellipsoid and for the leading constant coefficients in the far field within the matrix. Evaluations are also given for an arbitrary singularity in a spherical isotropic inclusion with an isotropic matrix.
