The very high frequency omni-range coupled automatic lateral guidance system becomes more sensitive as the aircraft nears to the transmitter station; this causes a destabilizing effect. To retain the stability the gain alteration is usually scheduled in relation to the distance to the transmitter. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn the paper, the parameter plane method is adopted to graphically characterize all admissible stabilizing gain constants for the automatic closed-loop lateral beam guidance system with guaranted safety margins. By exploting the gain-phase margin tester method a best parameter area for the selection of the controller gains is found in which the gain margin and the phase margin both fit the system specifications and a robust safety margin is maintained.
