Given a unital ring \(R\) and an ideal \(I\) of \(R\) which is essential as a left ideal, \textit{J. W. Brewer, D. C. Lantz} and \textit{L. R. le Riche} [Commun. Algebra 10, 1907-1910 (1982; Zbl 0495.16031)] considered the question when the identity map on \(R\) is the only \(R\)-endomorphism of \(_RR\) inducing the identity map on \(I\). The author considers this and related questions for right near-rings and generalizes the above result.
