The author uses the theory of fractal sets to describe convective diffusion of a passive impurity in a partly-saturated porous medium. By analysing a fractal satisfying the property of self-similarity for all length scales, the author concludes that the use of fractal models to describe natural processes can be valid only with certain limitations on the scale of the phenomena being investigated.
