Some sufficient conditions are established for a lower semicontinuous function to attain its minimum on a complete \(D\)-metric space (a generalized metric space introduced by \textit{B. D. Dhage} [Bull. Calcutta Math. Soc. 84, No. 4, 329-336 (1992; Zbl 0782.54037)]). Some fixed point theorems of Caristi's type and a variational principle of Ekeland's type are also derived.
