The paper presents the results on approximation by the algebraic polynomials of classes of functions which are characterized by the order of the \(k\)-th generalized smoothness modulus. In this case the smoothness modulus is determined by means of the operator of the generalized Chebyshev-Jacobi translation. For such moduli the direct and converse theorems of the approximation theory are proved.
