We discuss a finite element implementation of unified elastic--viscoplastic theory of Bodner for the analysis of metal matrix composites. An original model of circular fibres embedded in a square array of matrix material is chosen for the investigation. The results for two aluminium matrix composites are compared with the results obtained by using the Aboudi's continuum theory and Halpin--Tsai equations.
