The paper deals with identification of nonlinear characteristics of a mechanical multi-degree-of-freedom system by means of a structured neural network. The network enables decomposition of the problem into a set of simpler single-degree-of-freedom identification tasks. A modified fuzzy adaptive back-propagation algorithm is employed to train the network and used to identify nonlinear characteristics of cushioning liners. Simulation examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.
