The finite element approximation of obstacle problems is considered. Triangular elements are used for the approximation of the corresponding variational inequality. A posteriori error estimators with different regularity assumptions on the boundary conditions are derived. In two numerical examples the application of the error estimator to adaptive mesh refinement is demonstrated.
