A numerical method for the initial and boundary value problem for the equation \(u_t+A u=0\) is proposed. \(A\) is an unbounded, selfadjoint operator with negative spectrum. To eliminate a parasite term growing very quickly with time, which may appear because of the approximation, the author applies a special finite difference equation with \(r\) free parameters.
