This volume collects 31 selected papers presented at the fifth International Conference of the Decision Sciences Institute, Athens, 1999. The contributions are grouped into nine sections, five of which refer to areas of application (Education Innovations \& Distance Learning, International Business, Marketing, Fiance and Banking, Health Care Planning \& Hospital Operations).
