The author examines the influence of small perturbations in microstructural periodicity on the macroscopic response of structural media. As an application, the author gives a numerical study of macroscopic mechanical response of discrete media with both periodic and nearly periodic microstructures (a nonlinear elastic truss structure and an elasto-plastic honeycomb material).
