We discuss enhanced fluctuations of the chiral condensate in nuclei which occur as a `precursor' to the restoration of chiral symmetry. It is argued that such fluctuations can be observed via produced correlated two-pion pairs with quantum numbers \(J=I=0\) near threshold. Relevant \(\pi A\rightarrow 2\pi A^\prime\) experiments are briefly reviewed and put into proper context.
