German history experienced: my studies, my teachers. (Q5949242)

This article is mainly a translation of [H. Tietz, Mitt. Dtsch. Math.-Ver. 1999, No. 4, 43--52 (1999)]. The English version contains only the photographs of the author, Zassenhaus, Grötzsch and Hückel. Horst Tietz, Professor emeritus of the University of Hannover, gives a detailed report of his time as student and docent of mathematics. Among his techers were Erich Hecke (1887--1947) and Hans Zassenhaus (1912--1992). Later at the University of Marburg he met Herbert Grötzsch (1902--1993), Maximilian Krafft (1889--1972) and the physicist Erich Hückel (1896--1979). The article ends with remarks on Heinrich Behnke (1898--1979), Hans Petersson (1902--1984) and Kurt Reidemeister (1893--1971). The article includes photographs of the author and the eight persons mentioned above.
