Counting lattice points on spheres. (Q5949269)

The author gives a short overview of his work on the following arithmetic functions: \(r_ 3(n)\) denoting the number of representations of \(n\) as the sum of three squares, and \(q_0(n)\) the number of partitions of \(n\) into distinct odd parts. He studies a recursion formula for \(q_0 (n)\) combined with an identity expressing \(r_ 3(n)\) in terms of \(q_0 (n)\) which yields an algorithm for the calculation of \(r_ 3(n)\).
