This is a survey of works related to the F. and M. Riesz theorem. The classical F. and M. Riesz theorem was extended, by Helson and Lowdenslager, to compact abelian groups with ordered dual. The author first states generalizations of this theorem to locally compact abelian groups. Next he states Brummelhuis's result concerned with the F. and M. Riesz theorem for certain (noncommutative) compact groups. He also explains Yamaguchi's results related to the F. and M. Riesz theorem for certain (noncommutative) compact groups.
