L. Szabó showed in 1992 that for every finite set \(A\) there exist three minimal clones whose join is the clone of all operations, and dually, there exist three maximal clones whose intersection is the clone of projection operations. The authors improve these results by means of a construction of only two minimal and two maximal clones with the respective properties.
