The author studies the existence of positive solutions to a two-point boundary value problem associated with a second-order functional-differential equation in a Banach space. A key tool in the analysis is a modified version of Krasnoselskii's fixed-point theorem on operators compressing and expanding a cone, which is due to \textit{G. Li} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 97, 277-280 (1986; Zbl 0592.47046)].
