A complex theory is presented about the extrapolated successive overrelaxation method for the solution of large sparse linear systems. Parameter selection is discussed to achieve good convergence behaviour, and the author shows that there is no value of the complex parameters maximizing the asymptotic rate of convergence. The complex extrapolated Gauss-Seidel method is also examined.
