This paper is devoted to the problem of optimal control of a system described by a set of canonical hyperbolic equations. As distinct from the conventional class of piecewise continuous controls, feasible controls are differentiable functions subject to direct amplitude or integral-amplitude constraints. New necessary optimality conditions are obtained, and optimization algorithms that possess the relaxation property and converge to the necessary conditions are developed.
