From authors' summary: The paper is devoted to numerical investigation of equilibrium of a compressed elastic rod placed in a tube that confines its transversal deformations. The problem is solved approximately by the method of ``sequential linearization'' with the use of a standard software code for optimal control problems. The statement of the problem and numerical results are presented.
