This paper presents a simple analytical solution for the flexural behaviour of intelligent (composite and sandwich) panels subjected to electromechanical loads within the framework of first-order shear deformation theory. For the case of simply supported edge constraints, the electromechanical response is obtained by minimizing the total potential. A series of numerical examples is solved to study the influence of actuator loads on the displacement and stress fields.
