The author studies structurally fixed modes (SFMs) associated with control systems of the form NEWLINE\[NEWLINE \dot{x}=Ax+Bu+\Gamma y, NEWLINE\]NEWLINE NEWLINE\[NEWLINEy= \Lambda x+Nu, NEWLINE\]NEWLINE NEWLINE\[NEWLINE u=Ex+Ky+Gr, NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(u\) is the feedback, \(y\) the measurements and \(r\) the external inputs. FMs correspond to fixed modes of the system that remain unchanged as functions of the nonzero entries of \(\Gamma,K,N,E\). SFMs are linked to structural and graph theoretic aspects of matrices constructed from the system parameters. The results are then specialized to entrywise nonnegative matrices.
