In terms of the approach proposed in the paper the general relativity theory is interpreted as the theory of generalized continuum. Besides, the dynamical variables describing the gravitational field are the jets of the second order transformations. By means of this approach the author analyses the Einstein equations symmetries \[ R_{\mu\nu} - \tfrac 12 g_{\mu\nu}R = T_{\mu\nu}, \] where \(R_{\mu\nu}\) is the Ricci tensor of the metric \(g_{\mu\nu}\) and \(T_{\mu\nu}\) is the energy-momentum tensor of the matter fields.
