A sequence \((e_n)\) is defined here to be orthogonal if replacing the coefficients of a convergent series \(\sum a_ne_n\) by their absolute values does not alter the norm of the sum. This is equivalent to saying that the linear span of any finite subset of the sequence is a Banach lattice, under the obvious natural order. Orthogonality in this sense implies that any two elements of the sequence are Birkhoff orthogonal; the converse is shown to be false. Further consequences of this definition are studied in meticulous detail.
