A 2D temperature field model for multilayered thin films irradiated by a Gaussian laser beam is presented. Then, by using the FEM, the 2D temperature field for a bilayered structure of a transparent diamond thin film on an opaque silicon substrate is obtained. In this paper, the optical and thermophysical properties of the materials are considered independent of the temperature. Also the heat convection and radiation are not considered here.
