In the paper Tarski's 1933 version of the theorem on the undefinability of truth is examined. It is stressed that it did not mention semantic notions. The author considers also mathematico-philosophical constraints that led Tarski to formulate the theorem as he did. Tarski's achievement and Gödel's achievement in his earlier discovery of the undefinability theorem are also compared.
