The authors discuss the dynamic process of forming a circular incompressible liquid sheet by impinging two identical round liquid jets, and the subsequent breakup of the formed sheet in an ambient gas are simulated using an improved level set method. The compressibility of the liquid and gas is neglected. However, their viscosities are taken into account. The numerical results show that a radially expanding liquid sheet breaks up at its edge, where the Weber number decreases radially to less than one as suggested by the linear stability theory and observed in experiments.
