The authors of ``Combinatorial Dynamics for Regulatory Networks'' propose an alternative for the inference of covariation and assessment of dynamics that is based on ODE systems combined with Boolean networks; this chance proves to be more resilient to nonlinearities and noise in experimental data. The manuscript is built on a subclass of cellular processes, focusing on regulated degradation (RD) systems. Following an overview of the state of the art, the authors describe in detail the graph-based setup for RD switching systems, providing not only definitions and proofs but also examples. Next, they present the state transition graph and its Morse graph, followed by an assessment of combinatorial parameters and the parameter graph. The result section concludes with a comparison of fixed-point dynamics. The paper is highly relevant to the current state-of-the-art in this field; its thorough, mathematical angle makes it accessible to researchers with a mathematics or computer science background.
