The paper completes previous investigations on the number of eigenvalues for systems of ordinary differential equations. Herein, the original problem is modified such that, if the original data are real, all the appearing quantities are also real -- a major advantage in numerical implementation procedures. An efficient method for the computation of the number of eigenvalues without evaluating the eigenvalues themselves is presented for the original nonlinear problem by reducing it to a Hamiltonian type system previously investigated.
