Galois and the simple group of order 60 (Q6145603)

In his last letter to Auguste Chevalier, Galois claimed that, in our terminology, the smallest simple group has order \(60\). In this interesting article, the author argues convincingly that a table of factorizations of certain numbers up to 60 found on a fragment of a torn paper is related to this problem, and that Galois could indeed have given a proof.
