In continuum mechanics, many concepts can be studied using the geometric tools offered by differential geometry: Riemannian metrics, parallel transport, curvature, torsion. In this paper, the author uses discrete differential geometry and the induced discrete geometric tools (discrete curvature, discrete parallel transport) to develop a discrete geometry of inelastic materials, for studying material defects (microcracks, dislocations and incoherent boundaries) as well as for formulating balance laws and constitutive relations.
