The blow-up construction is a well studied and documented tool in algebraic geometry. The ideas translate into the smooth and real analytic category, and there are explicit models for the blow-up. Some of this may not be well documented, particularly the functoriality. As a service to the mathematical community the authors like to fill this gap in the literature in more detail than others have attempted to do before.
