In the area of Geometric Algebra for Conics (GAC), besides proper points of the real plane, the authors analyze and introduce a representation of improper points (points at infinity, which they call ideal points). They present two algorithms for conic fitting with differing numbers of waypoints (QW-pseudoinv and QW-null). The set of points for both algorithms can include up to four points, of which at most two may be improper. A MATLAB implementation of the two conic fitting algorithms with waypoints is also given by the authors. Furthermore, the authors compare the algorithms, as they differ from one another, among other things, also in the way the optimization problem is treated.
