A class of refinable functions is constructed. Functions of this class enjoy the following properties: they have compact support, satisfy suitable interpolation conditions and constitute the basic for constructing a local interpolating approximant having arbitrary exactness order of polynomial reproduction. Numerical results in approximating functions by using the operator constructed in the paper are given.
