A moonshine path from \(E_{8}\) to the Monster (Q626731)

The paper gives a down to earth interpretation of the McKay, Glaubermann-Norton correspondence between the node of the extended Dynkin diagram of type \(\tilde{\mathbb E}_8\) corresponding to the subdiagram \({\mathbb A_8}\) and the conjugacy class of pairs \((x,y)\) of 2A involutions in the Monster \({\mathbb M}\) for the case where the product \(xy\) lies in the class \(3C\) of \({\mathbb M}\).
