The authors describe a map which, linking the lambda algebra and the homology of an elementary abelian \(2\)-group, can be viewed as an \(E^1\)-level analog of \textit{W. M. Singer}'s transfer [Math. Z. 202, No.~4, 493--523 (1989; Zbl 0687.55014)]. They use this map to deduce that certain high-rank elements are not in the image of the transfer.
