Given two selfadjoint lower semi-bounded operators on an \(L^2\)-space, the authors study their spectral deviation in terms of an integral deviation of the corresponding exponential semigroups (called the comparison function). In particular, integrability properties of the comparison function imply operator properties of the difference of the exponential semigroups.
