It is shown that if \(X\) is a connected, locally compact metric space, then the space \(E(X)\) of ends of \(X\) in the sense of \textit{H. Freudenthal} [Ann. Math. (2) 43, 261--279 (1942; Zbl 0060.40006)] can be obtained as an inverse limit of a certain inverse system based on the quasi-components of \(X\).
