Summary: The growing number of publications in mathematics is a challenge for reference databases to catch up with. Hence, maintaining completeness of coverage is a permanent matter of discussion for these services. On the other side, complete reference services will very soon be the only integrating factor for the large variety of mathematical publications. Reducing coverage will damage the integrity of mathematical research and make a fair mutual acknowledgement of research results impossible.
