A novel stability estimate for the inverse source problem for the Helmholtz equation in the plane is discussed. The results obtained by the authors indicate that the ill-possedness of the inverse source problem depends decreasingly on the frequency. From the numerical point of view, a continuation method is proposed to solve the inverse problem that captures both macro and small scales of the source function.
