An iteratively regularized Gauss-Newton method is proposed to solve nonlinear minimization problems which are associated with inverse problems and ill-posed nonlinear equations. The key feature of this method is that at each iteration step the regularization and stabilizing terms can be updated. Convergence of the method is established and illustrated by numerical examples.
