A semidiscrete scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation in one space dimension is presented. The existence of a discrete solution is proved and stability estimates are given. For a suitable class of initial data the convergence of the scheme is proved. The limit problem is given and the long-time behavior of the limit solution is analyzed.
