The author studies isentropic van der Waals fluids. He considers the associated 1D \(p\)-system, where the pressure \(p\) is non-convex. In this context, solving the corresponding Riemann problem, giving access to computational aspects of Glimm's or Godunov's schemes, needs a resolution of discontinuities and nonclassical shocks appear naturally, violating the Liu's entropy criterium. The article studies these nonclassical shocks on the explicit case of van der Waals equation of state.
