This paper analyses a system of degenerate differential equations modelling a thin film falling down a vertical fibre, previously derived using a control-volume approach in [\textit{Y. Ruan} et al., Fluids 6, No. 8, Paper No. 281, 20 p. (2021; \url{doi:10.3390/fluids6080281})]. The authors establish the existence of weak solutions using energy and entropy estimates. Furthermore, they obtain the existence of spatially periodic travelling waves. Such solutions are especially relevant since they relate to a string of droplets travelling down the fibre. Finally, the authors present numerical results to further study the fibre coating dynamics and verify their analytical results.
