This short article primarily serves as a review paper, presenting some of the most relevant results, according to the authors, in the theory of surfaces fibered over curves.\N\NAside from the introduction, the article is divided into two sections: Section 2 and Section 3. Section 2, the more substantial of the two, discusses fibrations where at least one fiber is singular, starting with the case of elliptic fibers, then moving on to the classical theory of fibrations with genus two fibers as developed by Xiao Gang, and finally addressing the more general case of fibrations with hyperelliptic fibers. The chapter concludes with some original constructions of fibrations that include nodal fibers. The third and final section explores recent results on Kodaira fibrations, which are fibrations where all fibers are smooth. These fibrations are much more challenging to study than the previous case, and only a few examples are known.
