The general Newton-Cotes formulae are a central class of methods for the numerical integration of functions in one variable. A number of algorithms such as the midpoint rule or Simpson's formula or the trapezoidal rule are special cases of the Newton-Cotes methods. In this paper, a corrected proof of their convergence behaviour is presented.
