In this article (written in Portuguese), the authors give an in-depth account of the creation of the \(p\)-adic numbers (where \(p\) is prime) analyzing not only the historical aspects, but also the epistemological ones. It is a very interesting account, very suitable for those who want to understand the reason for the creation of such a set of numbers. They provide not only an intuitive description of it, but also some technical mathematical details.
