\textit{H. Fujimoto} [Japan. J. Math., New Ser. 11, 233--264 (1985; Zbl 0591.32029)] has introduced a defect relation for meromorphic maps of complete Kähler manifolds into the complex projective space intersecting hyperplanes in general position. Fujimoto calls this defect relation non-integrated. In the paper under review the authors extend Fujimoto's result for meromorphic maps into a complex projective variety intersecting hypersurfaces in subgeneral position.
