The author considers two formulas written by S.~Ramanujan in a letter to G.~H. Hardy. He discusses the role played by partitions, \(q\)-series and Roger-Ramanujan identities in the proof of these formulas proposed by G.~N. Watson. The discussion involves also arc spaces, the arc Hilbert-Poincaré series, singularity theory, Groebner bases, Gordon identities and differential algebra.
